1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide when you register an account — your username, email (optional), and password (stored as a bcrypt hash, never in plain text). We also store your learning data: lessons, progress notes, recordings, settings, and practice history.
2. How we use your information
Your data is used to provide and improve the STILL learning platform — saving lessons, tracking progress, personalizing content, and matching you with practice partners. We do not sell your data to third parties.
3. Audio recordings
Pronunciation practice recordings are sent to OpenAI Whisper for transcription and scoring. Recordings are processed for immediate feedback and stored with your progress notes. You can delete your recordings at any time.
4. Webcam chat
Webcam chat uses peer-to-peer WebRTC. Video and audio streams go directly between you and your partner — they are not routed through or recorded by STILL servers. Only signaling data (connection setup) passes through our server.
5. Data storage
Your data is stored in MongoDB. Authentication tokens (JWT) are stored in your browser's localStorage. We use industry-standard security practices, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
6. Your rights
You can request export or deletion of your data at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us through the About page.
7. Third-party services
We use OpenAI Whisper for audio transcription and YouTube for video content. These services have their own privacy policies that govern how they handle data.
