Zen Mode Gets a Major Upgrade with Custom Ambient Soundscapes

We've partnered with sound designers to create over 20 new ambient soundscapes for Zen Mode. From mountain streams to Tokyo coffee shops, find the perfect background for your writing session. Plus, you can now mix and layer sounds to create your own personal atmosphere.

Zen Mode has always been the heart of Still — a place where writers can disappear into their words. Today, we are making it even more immersive.

20 New Soundscapes

We partnered with field recordists and sound designers from around the world to create 20 new ambient soundscapes, including:

  • Mountain stream at dawn (recorded in the Japanese Alps)
  • Tokyo jazz kissaten (a small, quiet coffee shop in Shimokitazawa)
  • Rain on a tin roof (recorded on a farm in County Kerry, Ireland)
  • Late-night library (the Bodleian at Oxford, after hours)
  • Beach campfire (Pacific coastline, Big Sur)
  • Urban snowfall (Stockholm, winter evening)

Mix & Layer

You can now layer up to three soundscapes simultaneously and control the volume of each independently. Want rain falling outside a coffee shop with a distant fireplace crackling? You can build that atmosphere in seconds.

Focus Timer Integration

Zen Mode now includes an optional focus timer based on the Pomodoro technique. Set your session length, and Still will gently fade your soundscapes when it is time to take a break.

Soundscapes are available to all registered users. Try them out by opening any document and clicking the Zen Mode toggle in the toolbar.
